S.Res.564 expresses that the Senate wants President Donald Trump to hold the Government of Russia accountable for its interference in the 2016 United States election and to ensure that the United States is prepared to counter future attempts at election interference.
The resolution states that the U.S. Intelligence community, both under the Obama and Trump administrations, have a unanimous opinion that, not only did Russia interfered in the 2016 elections, but they will interfere in the 2018 midterm elections.
The resolution then calls on President Trump to:
● Use every opportunity and every tool at his disposal to hold the Government of the Russian Federation accountable for its attempts to undermine democracy in the United States and abroad;
● ensure that the United States Government is prepared to counter future attempts to interfere in United States elections; and
● clarify to President Putin that, if the Government of the Russian Federation continues to interfere with democracy in the United States, it does so at its own peril.
